Sport

Every student at Trinity has the opportunity to represent their school; to experience the exhilaration of a hard fought victory, and the heartbreak of a narrow loss.

Our ethos

Through sport, our students learn how to be resilient, how to persevere and how to show humility when the game is won. Whatever their ability, they can achieve something worthwhile.

We are proud of our success with our competitive teams, as well as the large number of students representing their county, region and country. Expert coaching staff, many of whom have represented their country in their sport, guide those who show promise. We also work with students who show they could potentially make a career out of sport through our High Performance Programme.

Our excellent facilities, including extensive sports fields, astros, sports halls, swimming pool, tennis courts, squash courts, climbing wall, shooting range, health and fitness suite, and strength and conditioning suite – as well as our fields at Sandilands – allow us to offer a huge range of opportunities.

Football

Our football programme is continuously improving, with high standards being set from all of our coaches.

Football is the only major sport that runs across two terms. This allows students time to practise, progress and develop their individual and collective skills. We offer competitive fixtures for various teams across all age groups for students to test the skills they have learnt in a competitive and friendly environment. We have a large number of students go on to compete for professional academies including Charlton, Crystal Palace, Fulham and West Ham. Teams take part in competitions throughout the Autumn and Winter Terms and our coaching partnership with Fulham FC also helps our students train to a high level.

Recent successes: Oliver Scarles, West Ham FC and England player; Camilo Goodbody, West Ham FC; Gabriel Bonsu-Amako, Crystal Palace FC; Lanre Olatunji, Charlton FC; Tobore Agbandje, Charlton FC; Jacob Fasida, Crystal Palace FC.

Sports Scholarships

Sports scholarships are awarded to those who show exceptional promise in at least one sport. Those who perform well enough in the entrance examination to be invited for an interview are assessed in the year of entry. Up to 50% remission of the school fee can be awarded, although some scholarships are Honorary. Each student with a sports scholarship will receive the same mentoring and support.

This includes access to elite-level coaching, links with professional sporting academies, and a High Performance Programme, which encompasses a holistic approach to athlete development, including movement literacy, nutrition, psychology and mental resilience. Many of our students go on to gain district, county and international recognition.

Sports scholars are invited to be part of our Sports Mentor programme, in which a member of our Sports staff is matched to the individual as a personal mentor, to offer advice and support. They also benefit from a bespoke strength and conditioning programme, are able to use our state-of-the-art athletic performance suite for training and conditioning, and are invited to attend a series of seminars on topics such as psychology and leadership.
