Sutton High Reserves Vs AMY Reserves

After a couple of recent losses the team was determined to bounce back. And on a lovely sunny day the people of Wallington were treated to some beautiful football. From the first minute we began moving the ball around simply and quickly, moving the ball from one side to the other. And it didn’t take long for Dani to break down the left and provide the cross for Adrian to tap in. A few minutes later after some nice passing in the middle Musa was put through and stayed composed to finish nicely at the second attempt. And when you’re flying you’re flying. From a corner delivered by Rad, shehrose rose and headed home to make it 3. A stunned crowd was left silent.

Still not taking our foot off the gas, we continued to dominate and capped off an excellent half with a flowing move, from left to right with J playing in Musa to make it 4.

We came out after half time and very quickly made it 5 when J put through Adrian who sublimely chipped a bouncing ball over the keeper from just outside the box.

At 5-0, a bit of complacency crept in and we allowed the match to become a little tagged for 15 mins or so where the opposition were able to pull a goal back. But once we calmed down again, we dominated again, creating more chances and playing some of that beautiful football the good people of Wallington deserved to see on a sunny Saturday afternoon.

A really good all round team performance. Inshallah it long continues.

A.M.Y. Fc 4 Warlingham Reserves 2

Saturday 8th December- AMY Reserves vs Warlingham Reserves

A surprise fixture that gave the team the opportunity to put together a decent cup run and we started with the full intention of making that the case.

It was a controlled performance from the off and the midfield were overpowering the opposition and winning every challenge. Within 10 minutes a lovely free kick floated in from Ata seemed to catch everyone in the opposition off guard and nestled into the top corner on the bounce gave the boys a deserved lead.

Following on from the early goal, the team continued to dominate the match, especially in the midfield and playing some excellent football, all that was missing was the final pass to build on the lead.

With the opposition slowly coming into the game,a clearance from the defence put Musa through against the defender; Musa was unfortunate not to get in behind, but the ricochet fell kindly to J,who rode 3 challenges (none of which were intended for the ball) before sitting the goalie down with a lovely dummy to slot away in the empty net and give us a deserved 2 goal lead.

Unfortunately, the comfort of the lead resulted in the intensity dropping and allowing the opposition to slowly grab a foothold in the game, both gaining the upper hand in the middle of the park and start winning the 50/50 battles. This led to the inevitable and with 5 minutes left in the half, the opposition managed to pull one back. However, this group has shown this season that they are a resilient bunch always willing to fight, and straight from kick off an attack brought a corner. The ball was put into the box and after a couple of ricochets and blocks,Danial did well to dust himself off after being cleaned out to get up and bundle home Musa’s touch on and restore our 2 goal cushion at half time.

The talk at half time was to keep playing our game and keep putting the pressure on the opponents; however with over half an hour to go again the team started to relax and play as if it was the last 5 minutes, allowing the opposition to again get a foothold of the game and start to have more of an attacking threat. They were guilty of letting us off the hook and spurned a number of chances, all the while we put together some great team moves but just couldn’t find the finish to get the fourth and kill the game off.

With the game now a fairly open affair and the weather worsening, Zafir was brought on to shore up the midfield and Raheel moved out to the wing. Unfortunately,a silly foul given away around the box saw the opposition float in a free kick into the box and glance a header in to once again reduce the deficit. However,as was the case with the first goal, the boys regrouped and some neat football saw Raheel released down the wing to float a lovely ball into the box which Dani came running in to tuck away and restore our 2 goal cushion.

Conditions were gradually deteriorating and some tasty challenges were being thrown in from both sides, but we stuck it out and managed to get a massive win and progress through to the next round.

An excellent performance for the best part, however there is room for improvement and a bit of “game management” will no doubt see the boys continue to flourish as the season wears on.

Surrey County Cup

#Round 1

An underwhelming performance saw us start the game slowly and we found ourselves 0-1 down with a chipped goal. We still looked off colour and couldn’t get into our passing game. We let in a soft second from a set piece that was missed by all and nodded in for 0-2. Kew Park continued to create chances on the break and should have been 3 up, but their striker put a side foot chance wide with the goal open. It was the let off we needed and from a corner, the loose ball was toe punted into the left corner by Sajeel.

We started the second half better, but Kew park was still dangerous on the break and Zar made some good one on one saves and they also hit the crossbar with a looping effort.

Haseeb and Saghar came off the bench and brought quality to the game. With 5 mins to play a good move saw a shot blocked from Saghar, the ball landed at Sajeel’s feet, who jinked past two at the edge of the area and with a Quresma style outside of the foot lobbed finish to draw us level.

Sensing the deflation of the visitors we continued to press and a foul on Mitz won us a free kick. A full 30 yards out, Subhan stepped up and fired a dipping drive over the keeper to give us a 3-2 win.

Playing badly and winning as the old adage goes, but we take the victory by Gods grace and move into the next round of the county cup.

Goldfingers 2 A.M.Y. Fc 2

Another tough away fixture against one of our nearest rivals. After defending some early set pieces, we started attacking the opposition.

Against the run of play, Goldfingers intercepted the ball just outside the box and scored in off the post. We almost got back level straight after a superb run by rehan and through ball, which saw Mitz round the keeper, but his shot was deflected past the post.

We weren’t at our fluid best, but kept probing and were rewarded when Rehan followed up Mitz’s hold up play and fired us level. We went up the gears and a good finish from Kam on the left hand side took us 2-1 up.

We continued to create chances and had chances to put the game away. In typical fashion we were caught when a set piece was not cleared, the ball popped up for the Goldfingers centre back, who scored a low bicycle kick.

We continued to push for the win but in another break away, Zar kept us level with a superb fingertip save that bounced off the underside of the bar, and in the same passage of play we went up the other end and mItz having rounded the defenders and keeper saw his shot hit cannon the crossbar and bounced over

It finished 2-2 in the end and was a fair result for both sides

We remain top with 5 wins and 1 draw and the best defensive record in the league
