U14B Girls Cup Final Dungarvan United 0 Mooncoin Celtic 3

Our U14 girls played their cup final in the fantastic Tom Drohan Park, home of Carrick United, in front of a packed crowd. From the off it was clear this was going to be a great final against Dungarvan United. The first half was a very equal affair with both sides giving it everything but nerves were very obvious in both sides with very little between the teams. The only thing separating the sides at half time was a header by Lexi from an excellent Briona corner. The second half continued the same with chances at both ends. Lexi got the all important second goal from the penalty spot after a handball. In the closing stages of the game Anna R sealed the victory calmly slotting home at the back post. Special mention goes to Ciara who picked up the player of the match award for covering every inch of the pitch, this was chosen by the officials on the day. A great victory with all eighteen girls on duty playing their part. Thanks to Dungarvan United for a very sporting game. Thanks also to the match officials, WDWSL and the large supporting contingent on the day in Carrick.
Lastly a huge congratulations to our u14 girls and coaches who have worked tirelessly throughout the year, twice a week in all weathers resulting in an historic double for Mooncoin Celtic schoolgirls. 🏆🏆

U14 League Mooncoin Celtic 2 Tramore 2

As the long u14b season is nearing conclusion Mooncoin hosted Tramore in Suir Crescent. Mooncoin dominated possession in the first half but despite lots of shots did not create too many big chances. In the second half we continued in the same vein and Tommy curled a shot from outside the box to score his first goal of the season in to the top corner, reward for his non-stop effort. Mooncoin relaxed and despite a fab save from Bradley, Tramore were quicker to the parry to slot home an equaliser. This spurred the lads on and Cathal floated a dangerous ball in to the box that James pounced on to score clinically when the chance looked to have gone. The lads thought they’d done enough to get the 3 points but Tramore won a late corner and the corner-taker got to the second ball to hit an unstoppable shot in to the far corner of the net and the match finished shortly after with points shared with final score of 2-2.

Cup Final Day

Tomorrow our U14 girls play Dungarvan United in the Cup Final and hopefully clinch a fantastic league and cup double. Support for this talented group is crucial as was shown when they won their league in front of a big crowd recently. If at all possible, get yourselves up to Carrick for 2pm and cheer on this team to cup glory.

U16 League Mooncoin Celtic 5 Dungarvan 1

It really was a Super Sunday in sunny Suir Cresent as our girls gave what was probably the best performance of the season to date.
From the kick off our girls pressed. But it wasn’t until the 20th minute for the deadlock to be broken when Keelin Byrne headed home a perfectly delivered free kick from Ella. On the 40th minute Áine Connery doubled our lead with a tap in after some great work by Aoibhe. After 55 minutes, Dungarvan pulled a goal back, but in a super response, Mooncoin went down the other end and restored our 2 goal lead through Áine on 56 minutes, getting her second of the day. 7 minutes later, in the 63rd minute, Keelin got her second of the day. Mooncoin were dominant in all areas at this stage. On 70 Aoibhe Rees got her deserved goal to make it 5 1 to the hosts.
The 16 girls in todays squad all got game time, and every single one played their part in this performance. We controlled the game in its entirety from start to finish.
A big thank you to Danielle for the ice pops after the game. Much appreciated

Ballinroad 1
Mooncoin Celtic won 3-1 on penalties.
We had Ballinroad who previously beat us 5-0 visit for our cup quarter final and it was a match to remember full of excitement from start to finish.
We started off really well and the lads showed how much they really wanted to win with super defending from the back four of Aideen, Charlie, Corey and Patrick all making decisive tackles early on and with Cormac making a big double save early on to keep us level. Some great last ditch defending from Corey and Charlie kept us level and shortly after Cormac put a goal kick out to Kieran on the right and he played a super ball through for John joe who had a lot to do from where he was but took a great first touch and rifled the ball across the keeper into the bottom corner to give us a 1-0 lead.
Edmond and Thomas were dangerous on the breaks and created a couple of really good chances towards the end of the half. Another superb save from Cormac kept us 1-0 up half time.
Harry and Henry came off the bench with Harry in at left back and Henry on the wing and they both performed outstandingly and made a big difference to us. Ballinroad levelled the scoring with a counter attack that was finished very well.
We rallied back really well and got behind the ball well at the back to keep the game level. We came under a lot of pressure towards the end and got Ryan on to steady the midfield for us and he done well with a few important interceptions. What looked like being a certain goal for the visitors ended up with another super save from Cormac in the last few seconds that got us to extra time. It was all pressure with Aidan back on making a big difference for at the back. We took it to penalties and it was Edmond up first and after giving a superb performance followed it up with a brilliant penalty smashing it in off the crossbar. Jim who was practising all week came on to show practice makes perfect with a super penalty into the top corner to make it 2-1 Cormac then make a brilliant save and it was the man of the match himself that stepped up to take the decisive kick which he smashed home to seal a famous win for this wonderful group of players who have trained hard all year and got their just reward today with a superb win and now it’s on to the semi finals.

U13 Cup Semi final Result
Mooncoin Celtic 2
Tramore 7
A poor start with the concession of two early goals was quickly rectified with replies from Paudie and Harry and we went in level at the break. Tramore’s physicality came to the fore late in with 4 goals in the last 10 minutes. A somewhat flattering scoreline as the boys done really well for long periods of the game. Best of luck to Tramore in the final.

Piltown 1
A physical derby match was played out in sunny conditions on Sunday morning and Piltown were on the front foot from the off pulling level on the 20 minute mark before two quick goals had us 3-1 up at half time, Lexi, Anna and Briona all on the scoresheet. The second half was similar with very little given between the two sides. Late goals from Anna, Briona and Taylor sealed the girls passage to a semi final.

Carrick United 6
A dominant display throughout from Carrick United who didn’t give the girls a second on the ball from start to finish and fully deserved the three points on offer. Goals on the day from Sarah Walsh and Emily Blackmore. All is not lost however as a win in their last game will snatch a play off for the girls.

Bohemians 1
The boys stretched their run to 10 games unbeaten with another good win with Pete, Oisín, Shay, Seanie and Billy among the goals. This side will be in confident form going in to the cup once the league is completed.

Carrick United 4
Carrick United were full value for the three points with a hungry display against a tired looking home side. It might have been different if Ryan’s effort had gone in instead of rattling the crossbar early on. Tyler was excellent throughout with many great saves. Big 👏 to Carrick United coach Barry Walsh who was quick to take up the sweeping brush afterwards and leave the away dressing room just as they found it. Top man.

Villa 1
All Ireland semi finalists came to Suir Crescent Thursday evening and our boys knew they had to up their game from Tuesdays defeat. A tight affair was played out between the two sides until an injury time winner from Villa, heartbreaking but a much improved performance.

U14 Girls Cup Semi Final Result
Ballinroad 1
Mooncoin Celtic 3
Our u14 girls were on the road for their cup semi final, Ballinroad the opposition. We started strong and Briona opened the score with a fantastic free kick. After some resolute defending from Ballinroad, Lexi finally added a second before half time. The girls continued strong in the second half but this Ballinroad team never give up, and scored late on. Straight from the tip off though Anna R, Ciara and Sophie combined to set Lexi up for her second excellent finish of the day.
Thanks to the Ballinroad girls for their guard of honour before the game.
The dream of a double continues with a cup final this Monday 3rd June against Dungarvan in Tom Drohan park, Carrick at 2pm.

U11E Cup Semi final Result

Ferrybank 5
A disappointing result unfortunately after last week’s heroics. The boys did start well but found themselves 3 down at half time as Ferrybank showed why they won the league. Second half saw an improvement in the lads but it wasn’t to be. Best of luck to Ferrybank in the final.

Review of the last week

Youths B League Result
Ballinroad 5
Mooncoin Celtic 1
First game in a few weeks and a trip at any stage away to Ballinroad is always going to be tough. Ballinroad had this game won by half time but credit to the boys they kept going and pulled one back through Liam Joy.

Youth B League Result

Villa 4
A much better performance for a depleted side who were level at half time thanks to a Jamie Croke finish but Villa showed their class to pull away in the second half.

U11A Cup Result
Southend 5
Mooncoin Celtic 1
Our A squad travelled to Kilbarry with the hope of an upset but a couple of early goals saw Southend ahead at half time. Credit to this young side who kept battling and were rewarded with a very good goal through Kai and possibly could have had a couple more. Best of luck to Southend in the Cup.

A classy Dungarvan side were on top form on Monday evening and secured three points but not without a battle. Ryan continued his good form with another goal.

Scoreless at half time with very little between the teams in this derby match. We sprung Ryan from the bench and he duly done the business to make it 6 games on the spin in which he has scored. Great three points secured.

Kilmac 0
Another good performance by all on duty with another three points secured to continue their excellent run towards the end of the season. Goalscorers were Oisin 3, Pete 1, Jonathan 1, Paddy 1 to make it 8 games unbeaten.

U14B League Result
Bohs 2
Mooncoin Celtic 2
Following a win over the same opposition the previous week, the boys were hopeful of another three points but this young Bohs side showed they meant business as they matched our boys all the way. James and Shane with two tidy finishes as a draw was a fair result as the lads extend their run to 5 without defeat.

U16 Girls League Result
Park Rangers 3
Mooncoin Celtic 2
A tough trip on a Wednesday evening unfortunately resulted in a narrow defeat against a decent Rangers team. Ella B and Molly Q got on the scoresheet but no points for the effort.

U16 Girls League Park Rangers 3 Mooncoin Celtic 2

The girls went out to Faithlegg to face Park Rangers. Mooncoin got into their stride and had the better of the opening exchanges.
On 23 minutes, Mooncoin took the lead through an Ella Brennan strike. Just before halftime Park Rangers got an equaliser against the run of play to go in level at the break.
At the start of the second half, Park Rangers doubled their tally, but on 55 minutes, Molly Quinn levelled up the tie. Try as we could, we couldn’t get a third goal, and with about 10 minutes left, Park Rangers scored their third.
A great effort was given by all the girls.
Hopefully, we can reverse this result in the Cup as we are paired against Park Rangers, game to be played in Suir Cresent.
Full time Park Rangers 3 2 Mooncoin Celtic.

U14 League Bohs 2 Mooncoin Celtic 2

The second match against Bohs in a week for the u14s was on a lovely freshly cut pitch at the RSC. Mooncoin took the lead midway through the first half following a free kick by Cathal that was fed back to Shane in the box who took a touch to create space and curl it into the net. In the final minutes of the half, Bohs equalised from the right wing with a ball that just looped over Bradley’s head in to the far corner. Bohs came flying out of the traps in the 2nd half and scored a fabulous goal that left Bradley no chance to stop a well hit shot. The lads didn’t give up and a fine through ball by Dylan was latched on to by James who used his strength to keep the defenders at bay and hit a powerful shot that the keeper got a hand to but couldn’t keep out of the back of the net. Both teams had half chances to win it but in the end the draw was a fair result for both teams. Great effort and good football by all the lads on both teams tonight.
