  • Serie A - Parma 0-0 Juventus Juventus missed out on the chance to go top of Serie A, after a 0-0 draw with Parma at Stadio Tardini on Wednesday. Antonio Conte’s team could only take a point from the fixture postponed from Week 21 because of snow, so Milan remain on top of the Italian league with Juve in second, one point behind Massimiliano Allegri's team with a game in hand. Parma remain unbeaten under new manager Roberto Donadoni, and climb up to 12th place with 28 points from 22 games. Parma were indebted to their goalkeeper Nicola Pavarini for a share of the spoils, with saves from Alessandro Matri and Andrea Pirlo in the second half. As expected, Juventus started with a 3-5-2 formation, with Marcelo Estigarribia and Stephan Lichtsteiner on the flanks, and Mirko Vucinic and Matri up front. Home side Parma also went 3-5-2, with debutant Stefano Ferrario selected in defence ahead of Fabiano Santacroce. Sebastian Giovinco, who is half-owned by Juventus, started up front for Parma. The Bianconeri had an early chance to take the lead in the fourth minute, when Alessandro Lucarelli tripped Matri on the right 30 yards from goal. Pirlo's delivery from the free-kick was typically perfect, but Giorgio Chiellini's effort, a combination of head and shoulder, hit the post. In the 19th minute, Parma goalkeeper Pavarini did well to keep out a Matri header, the chance coming from a superb cross from Arturo Vidal down the right. Pirlo then saw a 21st minute free-kick from the edge of the area drift inches wide. Parma were clinging on at this point, and Vucinic perhaps should have done better when he dropped the shoulder on Lucarelli on the edge of the area to find a yard of space, but the Montenegrin wastefully blazed his shot over the bar. But the home side managed to get to the break on level terms, though they were indebted to their goalkeeper Pavarini, who saved bravely at Matri’s feet in injury-time. After Giovinco had gone close for Parma with a snapshot from the left-hand edge of the area four minutes after the break, Matri wasted a great chance for the visitors moments later. The Juventus striker got in front of Lucarelli as he attempted to convert Estigarribia's low cross from the left touchline, but then failed to get any connection on the ball at all. Juventus then thought that they should have had a penalty in the 64th minute, when substitute Emanuele Giaccherini was brought down by a Jonathan Biabiany challenge in the area. Six minutes later, it was the home fans calling for a penalty, when Giovinco went to ground under a Andrea Barzagli challenge in the box, but referee Paolo Silvio Mazzoleni waved play on. In the final ten minutes, Pavarini made a fine stop low to his right from Pirlo's snapshot from 30 yards, then denied Giaccherini from Pirlo's chip over the top. In between those two saves, Vucinic headed Pirlo's corner into the ground and wide when completely unmarked. It was not to be Juventus’ night, and Pirlo was reduced to pleading for a penalty from referee Mazzoleni in injury-time when he slumped to the floor under a challenge from Parma substitute Santacroce. more
